A Tajik man lifts a stone, and a mountain brook is diverted to turn a mill wheel which grinds wheat into flour. From the first slow turn of the grinding stone to the Tajik woman’s traditional tithe to the miller for grinding her grain, the magnificent camera work gives the viewer an intimate look at the age-old process which provides bread for these remote mountain people. A simple, epic evocation of the ingenuity of early man in utilizing his natural resource.
