Great Fish of Maui, The

Alternative Title: N/A

Series Title: N/A

Summary:

A New Zealand folk legend is told using the delightful clay animation of Fred O'Neill to dramatize a Maori tale. The young brother of two fishermen has magic powers. They don't want him on their fishing expedition, but he stows away in the canoe, and uses his powers to bring in a record catch. He also hauls in a giant fish which becomes the North Island of New Zealand. O'Neill has used the folklore of his own country to provide an entertaining film, and at the same time to give an insight into the myths and customs of Polynesian people. (1984-1985 IFF catalog)
