South America Today

Alternative Title: N/A

Series Title: N/A

Summary:

This entirely new film present the background of a huge, diversified, changing continent. The impressive trans-Amazon highway stretching across Brazil; a new steel mill on the Orinoco; a university in Quito; a peaceful political rally in Santiago; a television soap opera in Buenos Aires; the oldest airline in the western hemisphere; tear gas and burning cars at a street demonstration, all help to tell the changing story of South America today. The film introduces the great varieties of people and topography of South America. Modern graphics blend with old paintings to highlight the early history, from exploration and colonization to independence. Three traditional institutions are presented: the hacienda, the church and the military (IFF 1973-1974 catalog)
