Made during several trips to the Soviet Union in the late 1970's, the film opens with an animated sequence which sets the stage for rare newsreel footage of life under the Czars followed by historical material shot by Julian Bryan in the 1930's. The fact that this vast country is made up of such diverse areas such as Siberia, Central Asia and Europe, is reflected in the great variety of its citizens and the wide range of climate, customs, dress and background. Schools, factories, artists at work and a family in Moscow are shown. A glimpse is given of the role of women in the Soviet Union. (NYPL catalog)
