The chief of the village, wearing a hat of part feathers, makes a pot. He cuts, dampens, and pounds the clay before shaping it. After drying, the pot is dyed a bright red with fruit from the Nana bush. When the pot is fired, the red color turns black. The chief’s sons weave baskets in the traditional, intricate monkey design, and carve paddles used both in a dance and for their dugout canoes.
