Onion Farming

Series Title: African Village Life

Summary:

For documentation of the division of labor, the unity of the tribal group at work, and the order, grace, and dignity of a black African people this short film is unexcelled. Each step is shown as the Dogons process their onion crop. Women harvest the onions, and men pound them and squeeze out the fluid to preserve them in the torrid heat. The compressed balls are then dried and stored for use in flavoring food or for trade with nearby tribes. (IFF catalog)
