This film provides an introduction to the world of oriental myth, religion and philosophy. The film begins with pictures of relics from the Shang Dynasty, the first historic dynasty of China, 1766-1122 B.C. These relics are the earliest recorded expression of Chinese man's search for answers to the mysteries of life. Rites connected with ancestor worship, as practiced today in Taiwan, are followed by a spectacular folk festival honoring Matsu, goddess of the sea. Both Buddhism and Taoism are then explained. The words of Confucius are used to convey the depth and universality of his thought. The final lines of the film convey its message. "In the diversity of all religions there is a unity in basic truths, and the religions and philosophies of Asia can enrich all our lives." (IFF catalog)
